Well, relatives I’ve hardly seen for decades came and went – my cousins Judith, Douglas and Peter, whose mother’s funeral I attended earlier in the year down in Manchester. Seeing them mainly consisted of directing them to Liberton and later having coffee and pastries at Porto & Fi on the Mound before their evening train arrived.
They eventually got out to visit my dad and sister but last seen were heading west to visit relatives in Glasgow… We went out to Liberton the next day and fortunately there was still some birthday cake left!
Our festival this year has been very badly organised, with no real plan of what to see, or when to see it… We attende a ‘Mock-Gonnagall’ night in the pub below where the poet William McGonagall died, which was quite fun and consisted mainly of bad poetry such as he was famous for. We’ve also seen a couple of other shows so far… Hotel De L’avenir was pretty good, and loosely based on Tropic of Cancer apparently! Several intertwined stories about the residents of a Parisian hotel. Coal Head, Toadstool Mouth and Other Stories was also good, although the stage dressing was very sparse. Marionettes talking about the goings-on behind the scenes at a circus!
And Madeleine was in a one night only performance put on by friends and involved her being interviewed about Alba ad Astra as a real, but secret space project. Good fun, even if the sound was probably pretty poor at the back!

Alright, it was actually yesterday but I was busy and didn’t have time to post.
But not too busy to take Raffles on his annual outing to see his big cousins at Edinburgh Zoo!
They, of course, were enjoying a sleep-in, but I’m sure they’d have had cake later!
Interesting article in Wired about tapirs and why not bothering to evolve is as important scientifically as doing it!
