Fifteen Years?

June 27, 2008

I was locking up a bit later than usual the other night when I heard somebody shout, ‘Hiya, Mike, how’re you doin’?’ I looked round and saw a bicycle zooming away around the corner but I recognised who was on it… Someone I haven’t seen for at least twelve to fifteen years! And he was gone before I could say anything.

Maybe I’ll see him again in a few more years and reply!

Harry Horse / Richard Horne

June 18, 2008

This is awfully late, but still…

I just discovered that the children’s artist and writer Harry Horse died early last year.

I knew him slightly years ago when he was living in Edinburgh (late 70s/early 80s I guess) before he met with any degree of success. Later I used to see his politcal caricatures in The Scotsman without realising who ‘Harry Horse’ was.

Much later, he and his wife chanced by the shop one day several years ago and he placed me instantly, although I admit I hadn’t recognised him, and I discovered he was Harry Horse, the cartoonist and childrens author! They both seemed very happy, and although I don’t now remember if their dog, Roo, was with them, I tend to think she was…

A really nice bloke; a tragic end.

Of course, there wasn’t room on the photo for all of them…

…so there are more photos on my Flickr page…

Art Gallery

rm art

We went to a pre-opening bash at a new art gallery in St Steven Street last night – free champagne and chocolates!
Well, free for me, but Madeleine had been approached about displaying some of her art so she earned hers! Anyway, another outlet for bizarre felty things! ;-) I was quite taken with some of the other art on display – some very nice paintings and enameled items.
